The start....
In 2002 kitesurfing got my attention and ever since I can’t live without out it. With a used Naish ARX 7.5 and a O’Brien wakeboard I started a new life. Off cours my first experience was tuff. I had to get used to the kiteboard, but after some valuable lessons, I was riding my first meters at my home spot in Noordwijk. After my first real kiteing experience, I’ve been improving a lot. I was always on the water and trying to get better.
2 years later, I competed in my first international event. The competition was in Turkey. Like always, the first time wasn’t about winning. I was happy to be part of the event. And I knew that winning wasn’t an option. I was in Turkey to get more experience and see al the pro’s doing there thing. Actually, I was so nervous I nearly crashed al my tricks. Later that year, I won my first Dutch national title. By now, I have collected six Dutch Championships. Something nobody else ever accomplished .
In 2005 I started to participate in the PKRA (World Cup) events. My first PKRA competition was in Podersdorf, Austria. The weather circumstances were good for me. The wind was gusty and the water cold, just like in the Netherlands. I finished 7th, which I thought was a great result to be proud of. I continued to compete in PKRA events, although I was still going to high school.
The next winter I went to South Africa for six weeks. It was time for my first good winter training session. School agreed to let me go if I did my homework and some catch up work afterwards. Back home I started with some PKRA competitions again. In Belgium, close to home, I made it all the way to the finals. But former world champion Kristin Boese beated me. I didn’t mind. It was my first ever international final.
In 2007 I finally graduated from high school. I was ready to rock the world. Finally I didn’t have to ask permission to leave. I could plan my own trips. I went to Brasil, Chili, Hawaii and all other places the world of kiteboarding asked me to go. I just love to travel and discover the world.
Today...
I am living my dream and still travel all over the World. This year I’ll participate in the PKRA (Worldcup) again. But this time I’ll be doing some of the wave stops. It’s a whole new thing for me and I’m really looking forward to it.
Together with the help of my sponsors O’Neill, Naish and USA Vision Eyewear I’m able to do what I love the most!
My main goal in kiteboarding is to enjoy every single session and get to see all nice kite spots in the world. And try to get more ladies on the water!..
